American Screenwriters Association Honors Sting with David Angell Humanitarian Award
Award Winning Recording Artist and Actor Selected for his Compassionate Efforts

"STING personifies the principles of the David Angell Humanitarian Award through his contributions to the world as a humanitarian and environmental advocate,” said John E. Johnson, Executive Director of the American Screenwriters Association.  “His compassion is immeasurable.”

Composer, singer, author, actor, activist – Sting has won universal acclaim in all these roles. He is one of the world’s most successful recording artists having won numerous Emmys, Golden Globes and Grammys, and also received three Oscar nominations. He has appeared in several films including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Dune and Quadrophenia.

Sting’s support for human rights organizations like the Rainforest Foundation, Amnesty International, Live Aid, the Juvenile Diabetes’ Carousel of Hope and the Elton John Aids Foundation mirrors his art in its universal outreach. Sting, along with wife Trudie Styler, founded the Rainforest Foundation in 1989 to protect both the world's rain forests and the indigenous peoples who live in them. Together, they have raised more than $20 million through dozens of benefit concerts to support and increase awareness of the planet's endangered resources. Since its inception, the Rainforest Foundation’s network has grown to include interconnected organizations working in 18 countries around the globe.

“Sting’s strength of character as a human being is evident in the way he lives his life and sets a standard for us all to follow,” said Johnson.  “We are pleased to recognize him with this honor.”
