David Angell, a well-known and respected Hollywood writer/producer for such loved television series as Cheers, Wings and Frasier, perished in the September 11th attacks with his wife Lynn. David and Lynn were devoted to their faith and spirituality, and worked tirelessly for charities such as the Hillsides Home for Children in Los Angeles. Their deeds of helping needy people have been recounted throughout the industry. The American Screenwriters Association is honored to be involved with this prestigious award and gratefully acknowledges the Angell family for their permission and support. “He was a kind and gentle man with
a quiet exterior that masked one of the sharpest minds ever to write for
television. His fingerprints are all over some of the funniest moments
in Cheers, Wings and Frasier. What few know is that he was also a man of
great faith, a quality that allowed him to navigate the shoals of the entertainment
industry with unusual grace and level-headedness. It was our privilege
to have known and worked with him,” said Grubstreet Production partners
David Lee and Peter Casey in a statement issued shortly after September
11.
