Why should
you use the ASA Script Critique Service?
Having
your script critiqued by a professional Hollywood reader is a structured,
non threatening way to get inexpensive and constructive feedback on your
script and writing skills.
-
YOU choose whether
to follow the reader's suggestions or criticisms.
-
YOU learn what
a professional Hollywood reader thinks of your work.
-
YOU learn how
to solicit and receive input on your script and skills.
-
YOU gain valuable
insight into the strengths and weaknesses of your script BEFORE you send
it out to competitions and studios.
How does the
ASA Script Critique Service work?
Let's
say you have a script you want critiqued. You simply send us your script
along with the completed form and low script critique service fee. That's
it!
Please note
that scripts cannot be returned. Our professional Hollywood critique
reader will email you your review and comments, a sample of which is our
script
critique evaluation (see sample).
Tell
me More About the Professional Reader...
Our professional
reader, Sarah Chen, has worked in the film industry for the past eight
years as an agent assistant, operations manager at an animation company,
and currently is a freelance Hollywood script reader. She has read for
such companies as New Line Cinema, Dreamworks, Spike Lee's 40 Acres
and a Mule Filmworks, Debra Hill Productions, and Village Roadshow
Pictures. Sarah has also worked for various script consultant services,
as well as read for the LA Producers Grant Program.
What if I Disagree
with the Critiques Provided Me?
That's
okay! Having your script critiqued by a professional like Sarah is a structured,
non threatening way to get inexpensive and constructive feedback on your
script and writing skills. You learn what an industry professional thinks
of your work. If you think our reader is way off, it isn't any different
than if you received the same feedback from an agent or producer who says
the same thing. You choose whether to follow their suggestions or criticisms.
What if I Want
a Full Script Consultation?
Visit
our web page on Script
Consulting. You have a wide range of professional script consultants
from whom to choose. All offer ASA discounts. Their prices range from $100
to $1000.
What is difference
between the Script Critique, and a full script consultation?
Sarah
will read your script and provide a review. A full script consultant will
read your script, and provide detailed notes about improving your script
which may include written notes on each page, a personal interview (via
telephone or email) with you to review problem areas, etc. Because there
is more time involved on the consultants part their fees will be much higher.
What is the
cost of using the Script Critique Service?

How do I submit
my script and payment?
In order to most
efficiently ensure your script gets to Sarah, you have two options for
submitting your script:
OPTION
1: Complete
order form online and pay by credit card or check/money order, then
mail in your script (and payment if using a check or money order) to:
Sarah Chen
2711 N. Sepulveda
Blvd., #190
Manhattan
Beach, CA 90266
1. Your script
critique information submitted on-line will be saved and if paying by credit
card your credit card will be charged. If paying by check or money order,
mail the check/money order in with your script. Option 1 saves 3-5
days off your script critique when paying by credit card because we don't
have to wait for your check or money order to clear.
2. Mail your
script to Sarah at the address above.
3. Your
script will be read in a timely manner. Your critique will be emailed
to you at the email address you provide after your payment has been received
and processed. We do not return your script so please do not send your
only copy!
4. Due to
time constraints we cannot accept new versions of your script to be critiqued
while
the current version is being done unless you want to pay a new fee.
You are always welcome to submit a newer version for critique in the future;
many writers do so because they utilize Sarah's input to improve their
script and then want the new version critiqued later on.
OPTION 2:
Print
off a script order form and mail your completed critique order form
with payment and your of script, directly to Sarah. ASA will verify your
current membership status and payment from that point on. The address
is:
Sarah Chen
2711 N. Sepulveda
Blvd., #190
Manhattan
Beach, CA 90266
1. Your script
critique information will be processed once received and if paying by credit
card your credit card will be charged. If paying by check or money order,
mail check/money order in with your script.
2. Mail your
script to Sarah at the address above.
3. Your
script will be read in a timely manner. Your critique will be emailed
to you at the email address you provide after your payment has been received
and processed. We do not return your script so please do not send your
only copy!
Please do
not send scripts to the Beverly Hills address as this will delay the processing
of your script for the service.
What
is the turnaround time for the script critique...
Usually,
you should count on up to a month for the script to be processed, carefully
read, and an thoughtful evaluation written and sent to you. Sometimes it
may take less than a month depending on the volume of scripts being read,
or slightly longer based on other factors such as holidays, vacation and
scheduled ASA programs. the reading and critique of your script starts
only when your payment has been received and processed.
PLEASE NOTE:
The one month time frame listed above is based on when the reader receives
the script and payment from you.
RUSH
SERVICE: Sarah has a RUSH SERVICE option
that enables you to get your script critiqued and your critique returned
to you within 7-10 days from the date Sarah receives the script (and depending
on how scripts you send her with a 'rush' option at the same time.) Many
people have asked for this option because sometimes you are trying to get
rewrites done for a competition or submission to a producer/agent/etc.
The cost of
placing a RUSH on your script is $35 added to the script critique fee.
