STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO ENTERING OUR COMPETITION

Thank you for your interest in our competition! We understand that the process for entering any screenplay competition (guidelines, script formatting, entry forms, etc.) can be a daunting task for even the most experienced of writers, and especially for someone entering for the first time. So, we've created this handy guide to assist you with the process. Please feel free to print this out and use it a checklist as well! At any point you are welcome to skip over a step if you feel it is something you already know.

o First, make sure your script is registered before entering the competition. ASA recommends ProtectRite because they are less expensive and the registration lasts longer than the WGA and offers equal protection. If you have already registered your script with the WGA that's fine as well.

o Second, read our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) web page to find the answers to your most pressing questions. Writers have told us that they have found reviewing the list of our FAQ's will give you a thorough understanding of all our script entry requirements.

o Third, read our Guidelines for entering a script in our competition web page to find the answers to your questions about timelines (deadlines and notification of winners), general formatting, etc.

o Fourth, read our Formatting web page to find the answers to your questions about proper script formatting.

o Fifth, decide whether you want to enter your script on-line or if you are going to print and mail in your application.

On-line entry
    • you will be redirected to the web site to complete the entry information and upload your script in PDF or Final Draft format
    • you can use on-line entry if your script is in PDF or Final Draft format
    • you can use on-line entry if you are paying by credit card

    Print and mail entry

    • you can mail your hard copy script with the entry form and payment to our entry address in New York City
    • you can mail your entry in if you are paying by credit card, money order or check
o Sixth, whether you enter on-line or mail in your script it is vitally important you include a valid email address because email is used for the following in our competition:
  • verify to you the receipt of your script entry
  • notify you of updates such as quarterfinalists and finalists
  • notify you of any changes such as entry deadlines, notification timelines, etc.
o Seventh, write down our timeline dates on your calendar so you can check the ASA web site for updates and notifications on Quarterfinalists and Finalists.
